Treating Carpenter Ants

Carpenter ants, and really all types of ants, get very active in the spring and summer. Unlike fire ants, however, you don’t see “mounds” of carpenter ants on the ground. Carpenter ants are typically found in wood areas, either natural or man-made. That could be in live or dead trees, inside tree stumps, tree branches, around wood paneling, wood siding, eaves etc. The best way to treat them is to locate the main nest. They…

Ants Inside?

There are dozens and dozens (actually, hundreds) of ant species in Texas, but there are only a few that can become a significant concern to homeowners. The ants that get inside and typically cause problems are fire ants, carpenter ants and small black ants. The tiny black ants are usually not a major issue. They can even often be handled by using consumer-available products such as Terro liquid ant bait. Trying that first can sometimes…

Wood Destroying Insects

Termites are the primary wood-damaging insect that causes worry around Austin. While there are “wood ants” that can be a nuisance and cause minor issues, they don’t eat wood like a termite and certainly won’t destroy your home. There are two types of ants that can burrow into wood — carpenter ants and acrobat ants. Neither of these do major damage, though they can create small tunnels and galleries in moisture-damaged wood, softening them up…

Large Ants

When people say they are seeing “large ants” they are usually describing carpenter ants or acrobat ants. These are two types of “wood ants” that burrow into wood and make galleries and nests. They can climb onto houses from trees, adjoining fences, utility lines or just make a path to your home along the ground. Because they often come from trees, it is a good idea to trim back any bushes or tree branches that…

Ants Climbing Up Your House?

Are you seeing ants climb up the side of your house? If so, these are usually carpenter ants or acrobat ants. These two ant types often burrow into wood and can do so near the house’s eaves or roof line area. While these ants don’t eat wood like a termite, they do tunnel into it and make pathways and nests which, given time, can damage or weaken things. However, they are more nuisance ants than…

Ants On Your Roof?

Carpenter ants, and acrobat ants, are two types of “wood ants” that make nests in wood, particularly soft or water-damaged wood which is easier for them to chew into. They burrow in and make nests and can often…

Ants In the Walls?

When people call for large ants they are usually one of two types—acrobat ants and carpenter ants. Acrobat ants are usually a bit smaller than carpenter. They get that unusual name for how they sometimes walk, with their posterior “up in the air,” making them look like an acrobat walking on on their hands. But carpenter ants are what people typically think of when they worry about ants “inside their walls.” Acrobat ants are often…

How Quickly Does Professional Pest Control Work?

We sometimes get a question like “How long before the pests are gone?” After we are finished the pests are being handled and it starts as soon as we apply our products. But what we also say is to keep in mind the difference between “consumer” level pest control products—like a common grocery store bought roach spray—and professional level products. Most people when they see ants or a roach in their house want that pest…

We specialize in long-lasting treatments using products in a way that effectively kills bugs but has no impact on people. No contracts are needed. We treat more than once a year about as often as we skip years between treatments.

Aztec’s philosophy is to provide the most effective pest control service available, having the least negative impact on people and the environment here in Austin, Texas. We use a combination of the least toxic and most effective pest control products available.

We originally offered pest control using only natural, “organic” pest control products. While we still offer that service, we now combine those products with a low-toxicity, odorless, synthetic pyrethrin (crushed chrysanthemum flower), offering a longer-lasting residual effect.
