Fruit Flies or Gnats

We don’t provide a dedicated gnat or fruit fly treatment, however there are some steps you can take to help control them around your home. The main reason we don’t treat for fruit flies or gnats is because they are breeding from an organic source. This could be food but also areas of moisture. So even if we sprayed or treated to kill them, they would still be multiplying and return to bother you. Fruit…

Weather and Pests

Ants have been more active lately since the weather has been warmer. You can get a treatment for them, but keep in mind with the next cold snap, or longer cooler temperatures, they will likely become dormant again. Unless they are really invading your home, the best time to treat for ants is when it is consistently warm and they are visible in or around your house. One reason for this is because if they…

DIY Pest Control Flies and Moths

Many pest control situations can be done yourself. One example is flies. Flies breed on organic matter, such as animal feces, garbage or decaying matter. So if you are seeing houseflies, they may simply be coming in (or already be inside) from those sources. You can remove dog poop from the backyard, move compost bins further away from the house, or just make sure before you leave for a vacation that you take out all…

German Roaches

German roaches are an unusual type of roach. In central Texas they don’t live outside! Instead they are an indoor roach that moves from place to place by people and their activities. Common ways they get into a building is when people move. A home or apartment that already has German roaches spreads to one that does not. The roaches or their egg capsules tag along in boxes, appliances, or other things into their new…

How to Handle Scorpions

Scorpions are unusual pests, to say the least. What makes them unusual? Just about everything about them! They’re not insects. They’re actually predatory arachnids, related to spiders. They kill and consumer other bugs and small pests. They don’t just live in the desert. They are found in many places around Austin and central Texas, but are all over the world including Brazil, Canada and even in the Himalayas! Easily recognizable, but not always easily seen.…

Bugs in the Winter

It’s about to get REALLY cold here in Austin for the first time this year. So what happens to bugs when the temperature drops this low? Ants, as you might expect, stay underground where it’s a little warmer. They’ll stay in their colony until the weather warms again. In Austin that can be just a few days later, so it’s not impossible that you’ll see ants again even after a cold snap. But more commonly…

Mice, Rat or Other?

If you hear scurrying around your ceiling late at night, you may have a critter inside. But what kind? Obviously there are rats and mice that can enter a home, especially during colder months. But did you know that squirrels, possums and even raccoons make their way into homes and attics? If you are hearing loud noises that sound like thumping, that could be a raccoon. Larger animals, naturally, make more noise and bigger sounds.…

Ants On Your Roof?

When most people think of seeing ants, they don’t think of them spotting them in or around their roof. But two types of ants around Austin and Central Texas can be found high up in your home. Carpenter ants, and acrobat ants, are two types of “wood ants” that make nests in wood, particularly soft or water-damaged wood which is easier for them to chew into. They burrow in and make nests and can often…

Cold Weather Pests

It’s been a mild winter, so far, but are there pests that become major problems when the temperatures drop? Most insects and bugs are more active in the spring, summer and early fall. But some pests like rodents, fleas and German roaches don’t need a “season” but can show up inside your home at any time. Sometimes ants and outdoor roaches show up inside, but much less frequently than during the hotter summer months. If…

We specialize in long-lasting treatments using products in a way that effectively kills bugs but has no impact on people. No contracts are needed. We treat more than once a year about as often as we skip years between treatments.

Aztec’s philosophy is to provide the most effective pest control service available, having the least negative impact on people and the environment here in Austin, Texas. We use a combination of the least toxic and most effective pest control products available.

We originally offered pest control using only natural, “organic” pest control products. While we still offer that service, we now combine those products with a low-toxicity, odorless, synthetic pyrethrin (crushed chrysanthemum flower), offering a longer-lasting residual effect.
