Wasps
If near a home, they most commonly nest under eaves or porch overhangs. However, unless they are right above a doorway or other inconvenient area, you may be able to let them be.
First, wasps/hornets are predators and can help take care of spiders, flies and other pests near your home. Second, even though they stay active much of the spring and summer, they do abandon their nests in the fall and winter. So if they aren’t too close they’ll do their thing and then go away in a few months.
But, if there are paper wasp nests near a pathway, entry, mailbox or tree in your yard, you can blast off the nest with a high-pressure water hose, or use consumer brand wasp sprays. There are some natural options like Stem or Zevo for flying insects which allow you to stay 15 to 20 feet away when spraying.
The best time to spray with a wasp spray is at night when they are least active, but they are all on the nest. It’s also best to do it in the spring when the nest is small and not fully formed. Walk around your home as the weather warms to look for growing nests.
