What are Acrobat Ants?
Acrobat ants are wood-dwelling ants that usually live in dead or decaying wood such as tree branches or stumps, but they can occasionally find their way to your home.
They typically climb up the house and get into the eaves and roofline area. They like burrowing into softer, water-damaged wood. Unlike termites, they don’t eat the wood, so they cause minimal damage. However, they can be a nuisance by leaving debris (“frass”) which is a result of their burrowing activity.
They sometimes get inside the home as well, seeking out food or water.
They can bite if agitated or threatened but aren’t as easily found or disturbed as fire ants in a yard, for example.
In order to handle them, we recommend trimming back tree branches that may touch your home. Those pathways make it easy for them to get onto your roof. You should also periodically look around your house for their activity. They typically travel in well-defined paths with many of them active simultaneously. They are most active during spring and summer months. They are not active in colder months and winter.
