1. Tree branches — this is probably the best-case scenario. We have had customers call us and get a rodent inspection when it turns out it was simply a few long, untrimmed tree branches that are scraping the roof.

   So if you hear some scraping noises overhead at night, talk a flashlight and go look or just inspect during the day and see if tree branches are touching.

   Even if that isn’t the cause of the noise, removing low hanging branches that are scraping the roof is a good idea. Other pests also use that pathway to climb onto the roof so this is a smart preventive action.

2. Squirrels on the roof — another good scenario. A little harder to detect since you may not see them. But if you walk around the exterior of your home and don’t see any obvious entry points, and you have branches over your home, touching or very near your home, then squirrels may simply be jumping onto your roof and running around.

Squirrels are most active early morning and early evening. They rest quietly during the night. So paying attention to when you’re hearing noises could help in this case.

3. Raccoons — these guys are obviously bigger than rats, mice or squirrels. So if you are hearing loud noises above you (one customer describes it as a toddler running around upstairs) then it could be raccoons. Or your toddler got into the attic again. Either way, this is a concerning issue.
4. Rats or Mice — Probably the most common, and where we can assist you quickly, efficiently and with an eye to your budget.
