Rodent Droppings
If you aren’t sure if you have attic rodents or not, there are some simple “home tests” you can try before hiring someone to come out and inspect the home:
- Set a paper plate with a small dab of peanut butter on it in the attic.
- Take a picture of the plate.
- Check it over the next few days.
- If the peanut butter is eaten, it is likely rodent activity.
You can also put a light dusting of baby powder around the peanut butter on the plate or just around the plate on the floor. Mouse or rat tracks would show up in the dusting.
Sometimes homeowners move into houses that have had past rodent activity and nothing current.
Other times a rodent could have been there and simply left.
