Bringing In Plants and Pests

It’s nearing the time of year when temperatures can drop and people may need to bring in outdoor plants to protect them from freezing temps.

But those plants can also bring in some bugs.

Anything from ants to some types of roaches could be hanging out in your potted plants.

If you must bring them inside, but want to reduce pests crawling around your home as a result, you can try dusting the soil or saucer tray of the plant with a little diatomaceous earth before moving them in. This can help kill any critters crawling in or around them.

Alternately, instead of bringing them in you could keep them outside and just cover them with a plant blanket and move them closer to the building, especially if the freeze won’t be too harsh or last for long.

Usually plants aren’t inside long enough to allow pests to really cause an issue, even if you do see a few around.

So if nothing else keep a rolled up magazine or swatter handy to do some instant pest control.

We specialize in long-lasting treatments using products in a way that effectively kills bugs but has no impact on people. No contracts are needed. We treat more than once a year about as often as we skip years between treatments.

Aztec’s philosophy is to provide the most effective pest control service available, having the least negative impact on people and the environment here in Austin, Texas. We use a combination of the least toxic and most effective pest control products available.

We originally offered pest control using only natural, “organic” pest control products. While we still offer that service, we now combine those products with a low-toxicity, odorless, synthetic pyrethrin (crushed chrysanthemum flower), offering a longer-lasting residual effect.
