Peak Termite Season in Austin
April is typically the busiest termite treatment season around the Austin area.
Termites swarm in the warming weather and evidence of their activity becomes much more noticeable.
Signs of Termites
These can include:
- Mud tubes are used by many termites to reach a food source and as protection as they travel. These can be seen on the inside or outside of walls as well as possibly in cracks in the structure or cement.
- Bubbling paint that may look like water damage.
- Walls and wood on the home that sounds hollow when tapped.
- Discarded wings near doors or on windowsills which can indicate swarmers are in the home.
How to Treat for Termites
There are various products pest control companies use for termites, but we utilize Altriset. This is a very low-toxicity termiticide and extremely safe while still being highly effective. [NOTE: Altriset has been discontinued.]
It is so safe that the Environmental Protection Agency does not require a signal word for it. Signal words are the words placed on products to warn of risks such as the “caution”, “warning” or “danger” labels seen on both consumer and professional products. It is so low in toxicity that technicians are not required to wear specialized safety equipment during the course of application. Another benefit is that it specifically targets termites and has very little impact on beneficial organisms such as earthworms or honey bees.
