Pest Proofing Your Home for Summer
Just like people, bugs like to come out to play every spring and summer. The only problem is when they come IN to play in your house too!
There are a few steps you can take to help keep pests out, which will reduce your need for pest control services. Even without these steps though, you don’t need pest control treatment every month, two months or even three months! A thorough, professional pest control treatment can last a year, or more! We have customers who call us every 18 months or even more seldom.
Here are some ways to help keep bugs out:
- Place aluminum mesh or screen door material in your weep holes. This will help keep out larger pests that may be in your area, like scorpions.
- Move landscaping and mulch away from your home. While bushes and flower gardens right next to your house may look nice, they also can harbor a variety of pests, including ants and roaches.
- Similarly, clear away leaves, brush, rocks and sticks from near your home to eliminate pest hiding spots.
- Trim trees away from your roof and siding. These can be highways to your house for ants, roaches and even scorpions. Trimming those avenues back so they don’t touch or overhang your roof can help keep pests out.
- Caulk up cracks and holes. If you have little cracks in your foundation or walls, get these filled.
- Replace bad weather stripping. Gaps in doors and windows are the easiest way for pests to enter your home. Make it a little tougher with intact weather seals or even upgrading to door sweeps.
Doing these steps will make a big difference and if you still need pest control services we can take care of the rest!

We specialize in long-lasting treatments using products in a way that effectively kills bugs but has no impact on people. No contracts are needed. We treat more than once a year about as often as we skip years between treatments.
Aztec’s philosophy is to provide the most effective pest control service available, having the least negative impact on people and the environment here in Austin, Texas. We use a combination of the least toxic and most effective pest control products available.
We originally offered pest control using only natural, “organic” pest control products. While we still offer that service, we now combine those products with a low-toxicity, odorless, synthetic pyrethrin (crushed chrysanthemum flower), offering a longer-lasting residual effect.
