Self Treating vs. Professional Pest Control
There’s nothing wrong with self-treating bugs and insects in your home! But…there are a few things to keep in mind.
Some pest issues are easily resolved without the need for hiring a professional pest control company. For example one random big roach inside could be handled quickly and move on. One of the big American roaches wandering in from the outside is not a sign of an infestation or major issue and could be taken care of pretty quickly.
The do-it-yourself method is not for everyone of course, so if you just want it handled completely, that’s why we’re here!
We do recommend that customers do not mix the do-it-yourself method with calling a professional. This is because DIY pest control products like those found at home stores rarely offer long-term solutions. For example, a trail of ants coming in to your house—whether these are carpenter ants or fire ants—are not going to be completely exterminated with consumer-brand insect sprays. These are usually “quick kill” products that only remove the ones you see, but not the ants in a mound or crawling over from a nearby nest. So they’re fine for an occasional roach, if you don’t mind the odor or toxicity of the product, but they aren’t so great for tougher types of pests.
For example, German roaches can be very tough to handle. You can find good products that kill them like boric acid or baits, but in this case how it’s applied is as important as what is applied. We have years of experience treating these annoying roaches and it takes a combination of good products, observation, patience, and professional experience and technique to make sure they are handled. Otherwise you may be seeing lots of roaches for a long time.
Remember, even if you just have a few bugs here or there, give us a call. Unlike other pest control companies, we never push contracts or long-term service plans, much less quarterly or bi-monthly pest control contracts. Our goal is one visit and one treatment so that we don’t hear back from you for at least a year. Some of our customers have even had 5 or more years between treatments!
We’ll give you good advice over the phone and never use scare tactics to rope you into paying more than you should.
