Keeping Roaches Out Of Your Home

If you are seeing outdoor roaches inside, pest control is the way to go.

But if you continue to see roaches even after a pest control service, and they are dead or dying, then you may have other issues.

This means the pest control products are working, but the roaches are coming inside. This applies to outdoor roaches, not German roaches, which don’t live outside and are brought in by human activity and on items like old appliances, packages, boxes, etc.

But if the big roaches just keep coming in to your home, you could have issues around your house where they are multiplying and getting in. These can include:

  • Debris surrounding your house. This can be piles of leaves, mulch, stacks of branches, sticks or rocks. Cardboard stacks by the home or in the garage. Basically, roaches love small, compact and protective spaces where they can scurry and hide.
  • Compost pile or bin too close to home. We’ve opened compost bins and seen literally hundreds of roaches inside. Move the bin away from the house. Use food-grade diatomaceous earth in the bin to help kill off unwanted pests.
  • Water leaks. Moisture and water issues are a prime source for pests. They need water to live and will gladly hang around leaky faucets, poor draining areas, damp areas underneath porches, etc. Fix leaks and air out these areas where possible to reduce their population near your home.

Just a few simple fixes around your house can make all the difference. The result is a less hospitable environment for roaches so that if you do get a roach inside, a pest control treatment handles it and there aren’t more that keep coming inside.

We specialize in long-lasting treatments using products in a way that effectively kills bugs but has no impact on people. No contracts are needed. We treat more than once a year about as often as we skip years between treatments.

Aztec’s philosophy is to provide the most effective pest control service available, having the least negative impact on people and the environment here in Austin, Texas. We use a combination of the least toxic and most effective pest control products available.

We originally offered pest control using only natural, “organic” pest control products. While we still offer that service, we now combine those products with a low-toxicity, odorless, synthetic pyrethrin (crushed chrysanthemum flower), offering a longer-lasting residual effect.
